Philadelphia Phillies third baseman Alec Bohm sues parents, alleging financial misconduct

Philadelphia Phillies third baseman Alec Bohm filed a civil lawsuit against his parents, Daniel Bohm and Julia Bohm, on October 23, 2024, in the Philadelphia County Court of Common Pleas. The complaint accuses them of mismanaging accounts they set up to handle his finances and converting a sizable amount of his funds for their personal use, including expenses from the Alec Bohm Foundation.[1][2]

Bohm, 27, alleges the first account was opened in 2019 and that his parents assigned themselves a 10% ownership stake in related LLCs for administrative purposes while claiming he was the true owner. The suit claims the parents later attempted to freeze his access to four accounts used for investments and real estate, prompting Bohm to review his finances in recent months.[1]

The lawsuit seeks control of the accounts, an accounting of all transfers, and damages in excess of $50,000, though Bohm alleges losses exceeding $3 million. It also requests the appointment of an independent accountant to review transactions.[1][2]

Daniel and Julia Bohm, through their attorney Steven Eckard, denied the allegations. Eckard stated the parents are "deeply saddened" and will vigorously defend themselves, asserting Bohm had full access to the accounts and that they have covered his personal expenses using their own credit cards. "Mr. and Mrs. Bohm love their son very much and have always acted in his best interests," Eckard said.[2]

Bohm, born November 3, 1996, was selected by the Phillies third overall in the 2018 MLB Draft out of Wichita State University. He agreed to a one-year, $7.25 million contract for the 2025 season, avoiding salary arbitration. The Bohms live full-time in a recreational vehicle and travel the country.[1][3]

Bohm declined to comment on the lawsuit when approached by reporters.[2]
