Scottie Scheffler withdraws from Houston Open

Scottie Scheffler withdraws from Houston Open

Scottie Scheffler, the world number one American golfer, has withdrawn from the Houston Open, the PGA Tour announced on Wednesday. Matt Kuchar, a fellow American and 2019 U.S. Open runner-up, will replace him in the field.

The Houston Open at Memorial Park Golf Course in Houston, Texas, is scheduled as one of the final events before the Masters Tournament at Augusta National Golf Club.[1]

The withdrawal follows reports that Scheffler and his wife Meredith are expecting their second child. The couple welcomed their first child on May 8, 2024.[2]

Scheffler has a strong history at the Houston Open, including a runner-up finish in 2022 after losing a playoff to Brandon Wu.[3]

Scheffler won the Masters in 2022 and successfully defended his title in 2024, defeating Ludvig Aberg by four strokes. He was named PGA Tour Player of the Year for the 2021-22, 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons.[1][4]

The Valero Texas Open will follow the Houston Open as the last tournament before the Masters.
