Former Philadelphia Eagles running back Boston Scott announces retirement from NFL

Running back Boston Scott, who spent six seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles, announced his retirement from the NFL on December 18, 2024, via a statement on Instagram.[1][2]

Scott, 29, played college football at Louisiana Tech University as a walk-on, where he appeared in 46 games from 2013 to 2017.[3] Listed at 5-foot-6, he was selected by the Eagles in the sixth round, 201st overall, of the 2018 NFL Draft.[3][4]

Over his NFL career, primarily with the Eagles from 2018 to 2023, Scott appeared in 75 games, making 12 starts. He rushed for 1,295 yards and five touchdowns on 232 carries, and caught 71 passes for 320 yards and three touchdowns.[3] He also served as a return specialist early in his career.[3]

Scott earned the nickname "Giants Killer" for his performances against NFC East rival New York Giants, including strong showings in regular-season and playoff games.[1][2]

His final regular-season appearance came on January 7, 2024, in a week 18 win over the Giants.[3] In the 2022 season's Super Bowl LVII, Scott had three carries for 19 yards as the Eagles lost to the Kansas City Chiefs, 38-35.[3]

In 2024, Scott joined the Los Angeles Rams practice squad in September before being released in October; he then signed to the Pittsburgh Steelers practice squad in November but did not appear in any regular-season games for either team.[1][2][3]

In his retirement statement, Scott reflected on his journey: "There is so much I’m proud of... I'm thankful for the coaches, teammates, and staff throughout my career that believed in me even when it wasn't popular."[1][2]

Away from the field, Scott signed with esports organization Dignitas in September 2024 as a content creator.[1][2]
