Giants coach shares wisdom for Jaxson Dart after working with Patrick Mahomes in Kansas City
Giants OC Nagy tells Dart to be himself, not Mahomes
New York Giants offensive coordinator Matt Nagy advised quarterback Jaxson Dart to develop his own style rather than emulate Patrick Mahomes. Nagy, who worked with Mahomes during three seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs, spoke to reporters on Tuesday ahead of Dart's first full season as the Giants' starter. He emphasized routines from Kansas City but stressed Dart's individuality.
Giants head coach John Harbaugh overhauled the staff for the 2026 season by hiring Nagy, previously head coach of the Chicago Bears and Chiefs offensive coordinator. Nagy coached Mahomes from his rookie year through veteran status, including a Super Bowl victory in 2023 and a near three-peat attempt in 2024. "He's Jaxson Dart. He's not Patrick Mahomes," Nagy said.
Dart respects Mahomes, Nagy noted, and the staff will insulate him while incorporating his preferences. Nagy referenced quarterbacks coach Brian Callahan's experience with Peyton Manning, Matthew Stafford and Joe Burrow. In 14 games during his 2025 rookie season, Dart passed for 2,272 yards and 15 touchdowns while rushing for 487 yards and nine scores, finishing fourth in Offensive Rookie of the Year voting.
Dart takes over full-time with Harbaugh's retooled offense as the Giants prepare for 2026. Nagy plans an intentional approach to build around the former Ole Miss quarterback's strengths.
